One of the most complex parts of the game of modern rugby union, the breakdown is often the subject of heated debate, open to widespread interpretation and constantly subject to IRB Laws changes. International stars like All Black Richie McCaw and Wallaby David Pocock, who specialise in getting their hands on the ball at the breakdown situation, walk a fine line with even the best referees in the game.

In this video, QBErugby has ‘broken down’ the breakdown with the expertise of QBE ambassadors Chris Robshaw and Conor O’Shea, alongside Premiership Rugby referee Luke Pearce and the help of some crash-test dummies from Tunbridge Wells RFC U17s.

Using the unique insights from player, coach and referee, the video dissects, analyses and simplifies the three most important parts of this intricate piece of the rugby union puzzle.
